The annual Great Mail Race draws competitors from stations across the North West to take part in the charity event. 

This year winners Sticky Fingers: John Simmons, Zach Weir, Ben Hawkins and Steve Derrick donated their $1000 to the RFDS. Following in second place the Pink Team including Alex, Brad Ward, Yarraki Dodd and Lachlan Hawkins also donated their $500 to the same charity.

Camooweal Drovers Festival secretary and treasurer, Ellen Finlay, was pleased to make the donation to RFDS on behalf of the winning teams.

“The winners were off stations near Camooweal so they may one day use the service if they haven’t already,” Ms Finlay said.

“The teams of four raced in a cart to win money for their chosen charity. The race started at the Camooweal Fire Station, they raced up the main street to the Post Office and collected the bag of mail,” she said.

“The teams then went to the hotel, had a beer and raced to the bottom service station where they picked up a passenger. Taking the mail and the passenger back up the street, the team then found its drover and delivered the mail.”

Ozzie Outdoors and Second Hand owner, John Davies, said in the three years he had sponsored the event, the money had been donated to the RFDS.

“I believe RFDS is always a great charity to donate to in assisting individuals and families across North West Queensland,” Mr Davies said.
