A significant upper trough combined with the massive weather system will begin to impact southwestern Queensland late today, before sweeping eastwards across the state tomorrow.
Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) spokesperson, Les Lever, said the rainfall rates for Mount Isa are not expected to be high with a 90 per cent chance of one to five millimeters.
“Basically we are only forecast for a storm this evening. Nothing to major with showers in the morning before returning to normal spring weather,” Mr Lever said.
“Early next week into Sunday and Monday, Mount Isa look to have minimal showers receiving up to 6mm.
“We are in our spring patterns already and shouldn’t receive more than the average rainfall as we transfer into October.”
The North West can expect to see a period of gusty thunderstorms developing as the change moves through.
Some of these storms may be severe, bringing heavy rain and damaging winds. Locations that may be affected include Birdsville, Roma and Bundaberg.
The forecast for Birdsville is 90 per cent chance of five to 10 millimeters with up to 40 kilometre winds.
