The Breast Friends Day event will be held at Schumacher Park in Cloncurry on Saturday. The event supports the McGrath Foundation.
Former international cricketer Glenn McGrath will attend the event.
Mount Isa Mens Shed coordinator Richard Lane said the organisers behind the local Breast Friends Day asked for help from the men’s shed, to help raise money for the foundation.
The Alma Street based men’s shed – with membership currently Mr Lane and David English – made the wheelbarrow and two wooden trucks.
Each item was several days worth of work.
“It was a bit short notice so it was as much as we could do in the time we had,” Mr Lane said.
The men’s shed liked to support local businesses and community groups.
Mr Lane said the raw materials were supplied by community groups and the men’s shed members used their hands to turn them into items.
It’s what he referred to as “value adding”.
For example, the wooden wheelbarrow used to raise money from the Breast Friends Day had been made of old pallet wood which had been built into a wheelbarrow, and then stained and varnished.
Breast Friends Day volunteer Susan Dowling collected the items from the men’s shed on Tuesday.
“It just shows a great community spirit of one volunteer organisation supporting another,” she said.
“All proceeds will go to the McGrath Foundation.”
The items will likely be part of a cent sale. There will also be 12 trade stalls at the event owned by local community groups and businesses.
This year’s event starts at 1.30pm which will give Mount Isa people time to drive down for the event.
Event manager Kylie Warrian said $104,000 had been raised from the last four events.
“Seeing family and friends come together from all walks of life to enjoy an afternoon out with fun and laughter is what this event is about,” she said. Entertainment includes a Jack and Jill race.
