Roughead joined in the main training session at Whitten Oval on Thursday morning and did all that was asked of him in front of thousands of excited fans.

But the ruckman isn't out of the woods yet as he continues to recover from a bleed on his right eye after being hit in the face by the ball during last week's preliminary final against Greater Western Sydney.

While Bulldogs assistant coach Joel Corey thought Roughead had done enough to retain his spot in the line-up, the 25-year-old's welfare was the main priority.

"He moved around pretty well out there," Corey said. "My understanding is (he had) no (issues), he's been good.

"Blood in the eye is not a minor thing so he could have complications.

"So what he (eye specialist) says will certainly hold a lot of weight."

Corey wasn't sure if Roughead would be given until the last minute to prove his fitness or if a call would be made on him on Friday.

And Corey insisted that not a lot should be read into the fact that Matt Suckling (Achilles) and Dale Morris were restricted to light duties on Thursday.

"He (Suckling) trained heavily on Tuesday and he has had a different kind of program for a few weeks now," Corey said.

"Dale trained yesterday so he has been on a different schedule. So I think he trained well and he feels fine."

Suckling sat out Saturday's thrilling win over the Giants but didn't pull up sore after training on Tuesday, according to Corey.

Lin Jong is another Bulldog banging down the door for selection after his best-on-ground performance in the VFL Grand Final on Sunday.

Jong broke his collarbone 21 days ago but trained without the aid of strapping to his shoulder and is firmly in line for a recall.

"Lin performed at a really high level on Sunday so he's done a lot to come back from such an injury in such a short period of time so he's sort of put his foot forward," Corey said.

Corey said neither Jong, Suckling or Morris needed to do anything else on the training track to prove they were available for selection.

The Dogs will have another light training session on Friday morning before the traditional grand final parade.

The Bulldogs have only had one unchanged team all season – way back in Round 2 – and Corey intimated the match committee would have no qualms making a hard call at the selection table later on Thursday.

"We pick our best side to win this week," he said.
