Police have shot a dog dead on the Gold Coast after it allegedly attacked a police dog.

The police animal was seriously injured during the arrest at Coomera on Sunday night, police said.
They said the police dog was "set upon" and officers tried to "subdue" the other animal using capsicum spray.
"The attempt to subdue the dog has failed, and police were forced to discharge a weapon which fatally injured the attacking dog," police said, in a statement.
A police spokesman said officers had been called to an open area near Cirrus Way about 8.15pm in response to reports of a domestic incident.
Bravo, the police dog was treated by a vet overnight but police weren't able to provide an update on his condition.
The German shepherd had only joined the Queensland Police Service in March, when he was inducted along with five other pooches.
A police spokesman said the dog's owner remained in Southport Watchhouse after his arrest.
On Monday afternoon, he was charged with a domestic-violence related stealing offence, using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, obstruct police and possess a pipe that had been used in connection with a dangerous drug. The man will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Ethical Standards Command will investigate.
