A tournament in New South Wales next month hopes to change all that and Mount Isa will be represented.
The tournament is the National Indigenous Football Championships on in Nowra to be held November 3-5 with tournament ambassadors, Sydney FC and Matildas striker Kyah Simon and Brisbane Roar defender and former Socceroos defender Jade North.
Coach Jason Howard said this was the first time the tournament was being hosted and Mount Isa will be taking a men’s and women’s team to Nowra.
However getting the teams down to New South Wales is an expensive exercise and organisers held a fundraising barbecue on Sunday night at the soccer grounds to watch the NRL grand final.
“We’d be happy to talk to anyone interested in sponsoring us,” Mr Howard said.
