We have relatives buried in both the old and new cemetery, and were delighted at the beautification work that has been done.
A big thank you to Mayor Joyce McCulloch, it meant a lot to see someone has been making an effort.
My wife thinks the installation of the concrete beams in the lawn cemetery was Mayor Ron McCullough's Council’s greatest achievement.
Now Mayor Joyce McCulloch is in the good books too.
My kids have voted the new Rodeo Grounds as Mayor Ron's best achievement, but my fishing and camping workmates have named the sealing of the Highway going towards the Gregory as number one, they have even started calling it the McCullough Highway.
For the locals who keep knocking Mount Isa, let me point out the visiting rellies reckon we are as well off as any coastal city, with more things to do, and more time to do it, than most of them.

Good luck to new racing club committee
I would like to congratulate the new committee members of the Mount Isa Race Club.
I wish Danny Ballard, Mick Tully, Tammy Parry, Donna Cole and the rest of the team only the best for the 2017 racing season and beyond.
I have no doubt that their commitment and fresh approach will be great for the club and the community.
I am a former local, having spent the first 30 years of my life in the Isa.
I grew up as part of the racing community.
All involved in racing, both commercially or voluntarily, have immense passion and love for the sport.
I held the positions of Public Relations Officer and Secretary on the Mount Isa Race Club committee for many years, so I fully appreciate the hard work that is involved.
I would also like to acknowledge outgoing committee members Jeanny Johnson and Kerry Daly for the remarkable job they have done, together with others on the committee over many years.
These two honest, loyal, humble, hardworking ladies had drive, passion and commitment for the Mount Isa Race Club, and all because of their love for the sport and those involved in the sport locally.
They devoted their lives to the Club and have achieved so many great things for the Club and the community.
Jeanny and Kerry spent the majority of their spare time preparing for race meetings to make them enjoyable for locals and visitors alike constructing the ideal atmosphere to spend the day savouring their phenomenal creativity.
This is a view supported by all those who have had the pleasure of attending one of the many race meets the ladies have produced.
Though I no longer live in Mount Isa I do get back up as often as I can and love seeing the photos and hearing about each and every event.
I am continually amazed at what the girls and their teams have managed to deliver, organising countless race meets and fundraising events.
Good on ya girls for a truly champion effort over many years.
Your integrity and tireless efforts have made the Mount Isa Race Club what it is today.
So hold your heads high and be proud of everything you have achieved.
Here’s to the new committee and the exciting future ahead.
I hope I can make it up next year to one of your events.
Good luck friends.
