After reopened as a sub-branch in April 2016, QCWA Copper City Mount Isa has found its feet again after closing 18 months ago.
A general meeting was held to establish the branch under the watchful eye of QCWA North Western Division international officer, Naomi Douglas.
The meeting was conducted by community member, Kim Coghlan, as nominations were called for the position of president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and international officer.
With one nomination for each position, Judy Martyr was elected as president, Moniqua Gorman was elected for vice president, Amy Ryder was elected as secretary, Yasmin Graffin was elected as treasurer. The position of international officer was not filled.
President, Judy Martyr, said the North Western Division and the branch were both excited.
“I am happy to see the Copper City Mount Isa Branch grow and become a well established organisation in the community,” Ms Martyr said.
“Since reopening as a sub-branch we have gained 26 financial members which has assisted with our growth to a branch. We have worked really hard to get the branch formed and approved by the North Western Division.
“After the branch closed, we were able to open a sub-branch but this was run by the division. It was up to them to decide that we were committed to establishing the QCWA branch in the community again.”
QCWA Copper City Mount Isa have some fundraisers in the works to raise funds to refurbish the QCWA hall.
On November 26 QCWA will host a Christmas Cents Sale and draw the raffle for $10,000 prize money.
“The money from fundraising will help us paint the interior and exterior of the QCWA hall and a new kitchen,” Ms Martyr said.
If anyone is interested in joining the QCWA Copper City Mount Isa the next meeting will be held at QCWA hall on Isa Street, Saturday October 22, 2pm .
