Home schooled through School of the Air, Katelyn O’Donoghue 19, Liam 17 and Kasey 14 had a childhood of singing together and were brought up listening to the likes of Alan Jackson, Slim Dusty, Kasey Chambers and Brookes and Dunn.
When they relocated to Charters Towers they officially formed their band called Homegrown and released their first EP.
Katelyn said living in remote Queensland and trying to record an album did have its challenges.
“We won a recording session with Simon Johnson from Hillbilly Hut Studio in Sydney, this allowed us access to song write with Mike Carr and Emily Dyer,” Katelyn said.

“We obviously couldn’t record the EP from home so we had to travel to Sydney.
“A lot of the music scene is further down south, but we really enjoy living here so it was up to us to jump in the car or a plane to complete our recordings.”
Living in rural Queensland, Homegrown’s upbringing was inspiration for its music.
“Growing up in the country, it was kinda fitting that we wanted to sing country music and song-write about our life in the country, Katelyn said.
“Our style is more modern country and we also try to incorporate other genres into our country music and our major inspiration would be Little Big Town.
“We write about our experiences in the country and about our home and what home means to us.”
The up and coming country band reached number one on the iTunes Country Charts with their self-titled EP and have been named in the Country Music Capital News as ‘One to Watch’.
“It was so exciting to release our EP. We did not expect it to go as well as it did and the feedback we have received has been amazing,” Katelyn said.
Homegrown plan to keep performing at gigs including the Eumundi Country Music Festival and Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Katelyn said they would continue to song write, hopefully release another album and maybe one day do a tour.
