In his previous life as a Parramatta Eel, Paulo was charged with common assault and reckless driving for a road rage incident in Sydney in October last year.

He pleaded guilty and was convicted of both charges in Parramatta local court on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old had his licence disqualified for 12 months and was given fines totalling $1300.

Canberra was aware of the charge when they recruited Paulo and part of the reason he arrived in the nation's capital early halfway through the 2016 season was to help get his life back on track.

Raiders chief executive Don Furner said Paulo had "responded very well" since arriving in the ACT.

"It was good for him to get out of the environment up there. He has a partner and two children and Canberra's probably a better place for him in terms of the environment that's around him and the place that he's in now," Furner said.

"He's fitting in very well and he's responded very well. [Raiders coach Ricky Stuart] knew what sought of person he was and he wouldn't have chased him if he didn't have faith in him."

Paulo was one of five Raiders Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga picked in his original squad, before he was released to play for Samoa against Fiji last weekend.

The hard-hitting front-rower was touted as a potential bolter for this year's Origin series and Furner thought he could push for representative honours next year.

With the Raiders' climbing into premiership contention in the 2016 season, they have a raft of players pushing for similar honours.

They've got two players in both the New Zealand and England Four Nations squads, while captain Jarrod Croker (knee), Joey Leilua (hamstring) and Josh Papalii (ankle) only missed out on the Aussie squad due to injury.

Their halves pairing of Aidan Sezer and Blake Austin have also been talked about as future rep players.

Furner said the Raiders would look at boosting their squad next year if they felt they needed cover during the Origin period.

"He'll be pushing for Origin selection next year and Boydy and Jordan [Rapana] have shown a few of our players aren't far off," he said.

"We can get players up until June so it might well be if we look like getting a few picked we may well need [to boost our squad], but we'll have that couple of months to assess."
