It is only now that 34 past and present Bombers players are coming back from a season-long ban for doping, the much-delayed and lengthy punishment for their involvement in the club's infamous supplements program that year.
Hamilton was Essendon's football manager in 2012, before leaving the club to take up a job in April 2013 as general manager of Central Victorian Football based in Bendigo, on what was reported to be a six-figure salary.
He will now work as talent manager for the state for AFL Victoria.
Hamilton left Essendon at the end of the 2012 season.
He has maintained his conscience is clear over the matter.
Hamilton was part of a football department which oversaw the employment of now disgraced sport scientist Stephen Dank, the architect of the supplements program, at Windy Hill. The football department also included senior football operations manager Danny Corcoran, senior assistant coach Mark Thompson, coach James Hird, and fitness chief Dean Robinson.
The injecting program plummeted the club into four years of turmoil, from which it has only just emerged, with the final stanza to be the AFL commission's decision on Jobe Watson and the 2012 Brownlow Medal.
Hird remained at Essendon until the second half of 2015, when he was later forced out of the club.
Fairfax Media approached AFL Victoria and through it Hamilton for comment, but has not received a response.
