But it's still higher than the national unemployment figure of 5.6 per cent, according to the latest ABS Labour Force data released on Thursday morning.

Across the country, 53,000 full-time jobs were lost in September, but part-time employment increased 43,200.

In seasonally adjusted terms, NSW and Tasmania both had increases in employment in September.

The largest employment increase was in NSW - up 6700 people - and the largest decrease was in Victoria - 11,700 people.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the figures were good news for the Queensland economy and proof the government's economic plan was working.

"But we know there is more work to do because not all sectors and regions are transitioning to a post-mining boom economy as well as others," Mr Pitt said.

Mr Pitt claimed the LNP opposition would search for "any cloud in the silver lining".

Shadow Treasurer Scott Emerson said the figures showed 23,000 full-time jobs were lost across the state last month.

Mr Emerson said he was concerned 40,000 Queenslanders had lost their jobs since the beginning of the year.

"More and more Queenslanders are finding themselves out of full-time work and the statistics show a concerning trend of people dropping out of the jobs market altogether because it's become too tough," Mr Emerson said.

"There is no cause for celebration in these figures."

Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland director of advocacy Nick Behrens said the falling unemployment rate was largely a result of an exodus of people from the state's labour market.

Mr Behrens said it was often described as the "discouraged worker effect", where they gave up looking for active work and instead returned to study or home duties.

"Queensland's participation rate continued to decline in the month of September and is over 1 per cent lower than at this time last year," he said.

"If the state's participation rate had held steady over the past year or those persons had not given up looking for work we would be looking at an unemployment rate well north of 7 per cent and not the 6 per cent as reported today."

Investors tour north Queensland

Meanwhile, Mr Pitt is spruiking Queensland to a group of international investors worth trillions of dollars in north Queensland this week.

The delegates visiting Queensland are primarily fixed-income investors from central banks, commercial banks, pension fund managers, life insurance companies and asset management companies with combined assets under management estimated to be worth more than US$3 trillion.

The group includes more than 41 bankers, Commonwealth Bank directors and executives and a contingent from Queensland Treasury and Queensland Treasury Corporation.

They will have a chance to experience eco-tourism offerings such as the Low Isles on the Great Barrier Reef, the Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk in Mossman, cruising the Daintree River and getting up close and personal with some native Australian wildlife.

"I hope they will effectively become investment and tourism ambassadors, equipped to promote Queensland in the world marketplace," Mr Pitt said.

The visit is part of the Commonwealth Bank's Australasian fixed income markets initiative for global investors.

The conference will begin on Thursday night with a keynote presentation by Mr Pitt.

It is expected he will address why growing innovation, attracting investment and building infrastructure are all key to economic growth and what the northern Australia strategy means for north Queensland.
