Inspector Bruce Kuhn said the first day on Friday was fantastic and police were called to "very few incidents".
"That's flowed onto the night when we've had virtually very few incidents overnight as well," he said.
"There seems to be larger crowds than I expected in the city, but there's been very little poor behaviour that we've had to address."
Inspector Kuhn said notices to move on from the precinct and arrests were lower than in previous years.
"We congratulate the community on the behaviour that they're showing us this year," he said.
"We're more than happy if we don't have to arrest anyone, we're just here to make sure everyone gets home safely.
"We're just hoping that the message of coming to the Gold Coast to play up is long gone."
Inspector Kuhn said police believed they had "all bases covered" to ensure the typically busy Saturday night was well-managed.
Officers and specialist units were brought to the Gold Coast from other areas of Queensland to patrol the event.
The Supercars Castrol Gold Coast 600 is being held from October 21 to 23.
