The respected international form analyst Timeform has lifted her rating to 133p, making her the joint highest-rated galloper in the world alongside French-trained three-year-old colt Almanzoor.

The latter has carried all before him in Europe this season, winning the French Derby, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Champion Stakes in England just seven days before Winx obliterated her Cox Plate rivals.

The p attached to Winx's rating is significant, however, as it denotes the fact that Timeform's experts – who have comparative data stretching back to the 1950s – believe she has the potential to post a higher rating.

Her deeds make her an absolute champion, and have evoked comparisons with the extraordinary Black Caviar, the wonder mare who conquered the world for the Peter Moody stable just a few years ago.

Comparisons are odious: after all, Winx and Black Caviar come from different generations, race against different opponents and are campaigned over different distances.

The Sydney-trained mare is a middle distance performer, her highest-rated efforts coming over 2000 metres, while Black Caviar was a speed freak, best at 1000 metres to 1200 metres.

So while direct links are difficult, it's still worthwhile  to compare and contrast their feats.

The pride of NSW has become the darling of all Australia. Will she become the queen of the racing world?

Winx has now had 23 starts and won 17 of them, finishing in the placings on three other occasions.

Her only three unplaced runs came as a three-year-old, when she was only a shadow of the horse she was to become.

Her racing days began with three successive wins, which gave Waller and her owners plenty of hope that she would be a better than average horse.

She went into the spring of her three-year-old career with a big boom, but was twice beaten by First Seal in top class fillies events in Sydney.

Late in her three-year-old season she began to blossom, when Waller took her to Brisbane for the winter carnival in a bid to get a group 1 win on her CV after three unplaced runs during the Sydney autumn carnival.

She had storming wins in the Sunshine Coast Guineas and the Queensland Oaks, but it wasn't until she resumed in the spring of 2015 that she began to show she could make the jump from three-year-old fillies grade to the much tougher open-age class at weight-for-age level.

Winx has not been beaten since that day she won at the Sunshine Coast in May, 2015.

Her victories last season included group 1 triumphs in the Epsom, Cox Plate, Chipping Norton, George Ryder and Doncaster.

She has carried on where she left off with group 1 wins this year in the George Main Stakes, the Caulfield Stakes and now the Cox Plate.

Her winning sequence is now 13 and her earnings are over $9.3 million dollars.

How far can she go?

Who knows? Bowman doesn't know her limits because he has never really pushed her that hard.

Best Distance?  Winx has won at the highest level  at distances between 1400 metres to 2200 metres.

Horses beaten: She has seen off the best of her generation. This season she has beaten group 1 winners Hauraki, Black Heart Bart and Hartnell into second place. Last year she saw off Criterion and Highland Reel in the Cox Plate.

Any knocks on her? Hard to find fault with Winx, certainly not since the back end of her three-year-old career. She didn't stand out at two or as a spring three-year-old, but the longer she has stayed in training the stronger and better she has become and has stamped herself as the dominant horse in Australia, and perhaps the world.

The only challenge that she has yet to meet is on the international stage, or perhaps away from the eastern seaboard of Australia, to Adelaide or Perth.

She has invitations to run at Royal Ascot, and Hong Kong would love to see her, too. Waller seems reluctant to risk an international journey, instead suggesting the world should come to her.

But in a global racing environment she will probably need to win overseas to stamp her greatness.

The incomparable, the non pareil, the unbeaten, the horse who was treated like a rock star whenever she stepped on a track.

Black Caviar transcended her sport in a way that Winx has yet to do.

Crowds lined the stalls in huge numbers just to get a glimpse of her before she raced, while fans waited long after the races finished to get autographs from Moody and Nolen during the height of her fame.

Black Caviar was a sprinter, through and through.

Timeform rated her so highly that she scored a figure of 136 – three points better than that currently earned by Winx. That is exalted territory, making her almost the equal of triple Cox Plate winner Kingston Town (137). Winx may have to emulate The King and win a third Cox Plate to top Black Caviar.

She ran 25 times and never had her colours lowered. She barely ever looked like being beaten.

She established a magnificent rivalry with high quality sprinter Hay List, beating him on numerous occasions. Hay List would have been the world's leading sprinter had Black Caviar not been around, and a measure of her ability can be seen by the fact that when she did not line up in Australia's premier sprint handicap, the Newmarket, Hay List was good enough to carry 58.5kg and give a sprinter as good as Buffering four kilos and still beat him.

After an eight-month spell Black Caviar resumed in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington in February of 2013 and smashed Special's track record of 55.5 seconds for the 1000 metre trip that had stood for 25 years, running a sub 10 second sectional for 200 metres in the process.

Black Caviar set a weight-carrying record for a mare when she shouldered 58kg to win the Newmarket Handicap in 2011 by an easy three lengths from Crystal Lily, the previous year's Golden Slipper winner, to whom she was conceding eight kilograms.

Her piece de resistance, however, was when she donned the body-hugging "skin suit" and flew to England where she took on Europe's best in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. Despite Nolen's injudicious ride – he eased her down far too early – she managed to pick up the bit and keep going to see off the challenge of a really high class French mare, the multiple group 1 winner Moonlight Cloud.

Record: Raced 2008-09 season to 2012-13 season.

25 wins from 25 starts.

Best Distance: She won at group 1 level regularly between 1000 metres and 1200 metres. She only ran once at 1400 metres, and that resulted in a group 1 victory too, in the CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield.

Horses Beaten: Hay List, who would have been hailed as a great in any other era. Also regularly trounced the likes of Buffering, Slipper winner Crystal Lily, Caulfield Cup heroine Southern Speed, Blue Diamond winner (and Royal Ascot placegetter) Star Witness, group 1 winners Epaulette and Moment Of Change, and top French mare Moonlight Cloud.

Any knocks on her?

Hard to knock perfection. The unbeaten record over five years stamps her as an extraordinary performer. She took on Europe's best. It might have been nice to see her try to stretch her brilliance beyond sprint trips, but that is really only a quibble given how brilliant she was over short courses.

The verdict: I'll go for Black Caviar because she beat the world in their own backyard. But if Winx can follow in her hoofprints, there's no reason why she couldn't be considered in the same league.
