Golden Slipper winner Capitalist enters Saturday's Coolmore Stud Stakes once again underestimated according to jockey Blake Shinn, who smiled when he saw the weather forecast for the next week in Melbourne.

Shinn has ridden Capitalist at all of his seven starts, which have included Magic Millions and Golden Slipper victories, and knows he needs one thing – a firm ground.

"People wrote this horse off before the [Golden] Slipper because of one run on a shifty track, where he ran second, and he came out and was too good for them in the Slipper," Shinn said. "He just needs confidence in his footing and will get that on Saturday.

"They are writing him off again on Saturday, but they underestimate how well he is going and the skill of Peter Snowden to have him ready.

"He has beaten Astern, Extreme Choice, Star Turn and Flying Artie in the Slipper and although I have the utmost respect for them and what they have done as three-year-olds, I think they would have to be worried if the real Capitalist turns up on a firm track."

Ladbrokes has the Golden Slipper winner as an $11 chance in an all-in market for the best renewal of the Coolmore Stud Stakes since it took its Derby Day place.

Godolphin's Golden Rose winner Astern is the $3.20 favourite in front of Extreme Choice, which beat the older sprinters in the Moir Stakes, at $3.60, while Star Turn is a $4.40 hope for Team Hawkes.

The depth of the race is shown by Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond placegetter Flying Artie, which won the Blue Sapphire in his spring return, being at $7.50 and the unbeaten Russian Revolution, which accounted for Astern and Capitalist in the Roman Consul Stakes, at $9.

Capitalist might have struggled this spring, fourth behind Star Turn under a big weight in the San Domenico Stakes on a slow track before his third in the Roman Consul Stakes, but Shinn is upbeat about his chances.

He was a late scratching from the Manikato Stakes on Friday night, when rain softened the Moonee Valley surface.

"The horse is fine, he's flying and ready to go, but experience told us that running on that surface would be a complete waste of time," Shinn said. "I know this horse and I'm so confident that on a firm track he is up with all these three-year-olds.

"They are a great bunch but he proved in the Slipper he was better than them, now we just have to do it at Flemington."

Shinn will be a major factor in each of the four group 1s with Capitalist, the longest price of his quartet of rides. He has Good Standing in the Victoria Derby, Voodoo Lad in the Cantala Stakes over 1600 metres and an old favourite in First Seal in the Myer Classic.

Shinn was delighted to see First Seal back to her best in the Tristarc Stakes at Caulfield and believes she has improved since that run.

"This race has been the target and it's the first time in a long time she is at her best physically and mentally," Shinn said. "She did a good job to win at Caulfield and I think the mile at Flemington will suit her even better."
