Event manager George Fortune said things were quite hectic in the Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group with final preparations for the weekend.
“But before we make our annual migration to the Lake, I just wanted to give a big shout out to all those volunteers who band together to make Queensland's richest freshwater fishing competition happen annually.” Mr Fortune said.
“They range from the porta-loo cleaners to the truck drivers, bar staff to hamburger cooks, weigh station and nomination tent teams through to the families who allow them to give up their time.”
Mr Fortune said these people were passionate about the Fishing Classic, sustaining our recreational fishing and the region and should all be applauded.
But he had a word of advice to competitors and spectators alike.
“With hot and sunny weather forecast for the weekend be sure to slip, slop, slap,” he said.
“Also be sure to keep up the water and fluids and be sure to make the most of the food and bar facilities on offer from the many community organisations on site for the entire event.”
Food and beverage stalls will be available from Friday afternoon onwards at the Classic manned by community organisations and local businesses.
Ice will also be available for purchase at the main competition site.
The Fish Stocking Group advises patrons are advised that ATMS and EFTPOS facilities are not available on site.
Nominations are open for all fishing categories at Tool N Tackle or Outback at Isa until mid-morning Friday.
After that time they will then move out to the nomination tent at Black Rock Park, Lake Moondarra.
Fishing starts at midday Friday.
Entry to the Fishing Classic for spectators is free, with an optional gold coin donation for a ticket in the lucky gate prizes.
Presentations for the weekend will be hosted at the Lake from 11am Sunday October 30, with fishing to wrap up at 10am.
