The injury-prone big man played just one senior game in 2016, taking his tally at the Cats to nine games, after 82 with the Brisbane Lions and 15 with Melbourne.

The at-times imposing key forward was traded to Geelong from the Demons after coming out of a short-lived retirement in 2014.

He has detailed his battle with mental health issues on social media in recent years.

Clark, 29, is set to return to Western Australia.

Geelong football manager Steve Hocking thanked Clark for his efforts at the club.

"Unfortunately Mitch suffered a number of injuries during his two years at Geelong and, as a result, wasn't able to perform to his true capability," Hocking said.

"We thank Mitch for his time at the club and wish him and his family all the best for their future."

Clark was thrust into the headlines mid-year after it emerged he had made a vile remark about the sister of Box Hill player Teia Miles during a VFL game. The woman in question was the partner of Geelong midfielder Mitch Duncan.
