Outback at Isa Business Manager Angi Matveyeff and tourism manager Kylie Rixon are taking the Bell & Moir Outback at Isa car on the road to a series of Queensland tourism conferences.
“It’s really flashy, we getting a lot of conversation from drivers about where we’re going and and it’s created a lot of attention as we’re driving through,” Ms Matveff said.
“We’re on our way on to the Queensland Visitor and Tourism Information conference in Roma which is also this year in conjunction with the Australian regional tourism network convention, which is very exciting.
It gives us the opportunity for extensive industry knowledge, for instance there are futurists talking about the future of tourism from all different kinds of perspectives, including the future of visitor centres.
Ms Matveyeff is doing a talk at the conference showcasing Outback at Isa.
“They’ve asked me to talk about Mount Isa because it has become more forefront in people’s conversations down south,” she said.
“They haven’t heard a lot about Isa in the past and now they are hearing a lot.”
Ms Matveyeff put that down to the visitor centre being much more active and the corporate restructure of the three entertainment and tourist assets of council (Outback at Isa, Buchanan Park and the Civic Centre) under one management.
“We can pool more resources and we can have a better reach as well,” she said.
On the trip the pair have visited several visitor centres and traded information.
“We’ve brought some souvenirs and from Mount Isa and information about accommodation, services, restaurants and cafes,” she said.
“We also talked about the changes at Outback at Isa including the upgrade to the Isa Experience Museum and guided tours of the Riversleigh Museum.”
After Roma they will go to Brisbane to call in on Tourism Queensland and network with industry reps and they return home via Windorah for the Outback Queensland Tourism Association awards where they will do another presentation.
