It is just one of dozens of unsavoury, offensive and political edits to the online encyclopaedia that appear to have been made anonymously by public servants and political staffers.

The changes were discovered using the WikiWatchdog website, which tracks anonymous edits made to Wikipedia and logs the internet protocol (IP) address the changes were made from.

The issue has sparked an investigation, with the matter referred to the Queensland Public Service Commissioner following questions from Brisbane Times.

It comes after an analysis on Wednesday by Fairfax Media found federal public servants and political staffers had made tens of thousands of anonymous changes to Wikipedia, including insulting a world leader and claiming the Holocaust was "justified".

A bizarre edit made in 2005 on the Queensland Treasury network changed an entry about the September 11 attacks from "a series of coordinated suicide attacks upon the United States of America" to "a series of delicious attacks upon the United States of America".

Other additions via Corrective Services insult politicians, including one from 2012 that describes federal MP Anthony Albanese as a "politician of no consequence who once made reference to a convoy of no consequence".

Other examples include: 

• Former premier Anna Bligh's page had the words "The f---ing of dogs" added in 2010 in a change linked to the Corrective Services network
• In 2009, comments that Anna Bligh created a club to see who could speed more than 300km/h for the longest period and that she was an orc in a battle scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers were removed. In 2009, other offensive comments about Ms Bligh were also removed, including that she had a Bachelor of Arts in "social manipulation"
• In a page about the song Private Emotion, the words "The song is about having sex with lesbians and doing anal sex with horses" were added on the Queensland Treasury network
• Vulgar comments were added into the page about fictional Pirates of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow in 2006: "After that, Jack Sparrow starts f---ing dogs up the arse" on the Treasury network
• Former prime minister John Howard's page was edited to add: "He now suffers from relevance deprivation syndrome" in 2010
• The page for Fasting had the words: "The act of fasting results in uncontrollable bodily flatulence and the development of vaginas all over the body" added in 2010
• Adding the words "LIGHT IS GAY" into a page about the speed of light in 2008 on the Queensland Treasury network
• In 2013, unfavourable opinions about former Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie were scrubbed from his page, according to a result from correctiveservices.qld.gov.au, including that "it is expected that Bleijie will have a short career in politics, and is unlikely to obtain employment as a legal professional on his ousting"
• The page for Ladle (spoon) had the words: "ALSO KNOWN AS THE "SCOOPY SPOON"" added in 2013

The overwhelming majority of the edits linked to government departments were trivial or minor and others updated details for newly appointed ministers, added university or background information or corrected other information.

A spokesman for Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Premier expected public servants to use information technology resources appropriately and responsibly.

"The Director-General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet has referred the matter to the Public Service Commissioner for investigation and any necessary action," the spokesman said.
