An internal report in 2013 accused stars of misusing sleeping pills with energy drinks at the World Cup and earlier this season, the New Zealand Warriors announced they had barred Manu Vatuvei, Ben Matulino and Bodene Thompson from selection in the Anzac Test due to similar offences.

Kidwell, a late replacement for Stephen Kearney as coach of the world number one side at the Four Nations - which kicks off this weekend - told Fairfax Media he had not inherited any selection blacklist despite a number of players being surprisingly omitted in recent times.

"Whatever happened in the past with those guys, or whoever, it's a clean slate for me," he said. "They'll get an opportunity to start afresh.

"But they also know the culture and the rules that we've put in place.

"I've got my own opinion, I'm the new coach. I'm very strong on the culture. It's something I was very strong on in Perth.

"Im strong on it here. I've got some young guys coming through and I'm making sure that culture stays strong with stuff I've built up over the last three years when I was assistant to Stephen Kearney."

Kidwell surprised fans by admitting to an interchange blunder involving second rower Jason Taumalolo in the 26-6.

"That's the way I am - just honest," he said. "Some people thought I was too honest but that's just the way I felt.

"That was my initial thought on the day of the game but when I looked at the game (on video), guys like Marty Taupau, Adam Blair really brought some energy off the bench. Tohu Harris was doing a good job, Manu Ma'u.

"But I've just got to make sure I get those interchanges right,

"A lesson for me when we go into tournaments like this - we probably need a warm-up for players who haven't played for five or six weeks."

Asked the difference between Kearney and Kidwell, captain Jesse Bromwich said: "He's brought a bit more culture and more passion. Mooks (Kearney) is a bit more relaxed. Kiddy's been a bit more aggress and passionate, I guess."

There are no changes to Kidwell's top 17 from nib Stadium, while England coach Wayne Bennett named a 19-man squad including would-be debutant Stefan Ratchford. The match is sold out.
