On Friday, Dreamworld chief executive officer Craig Davidson said the park would not reopen until after the funerals of the four people killed on the Thunder River Rapids ride.

Mr Davidson said no attractions in the park would reopen until internal and external audits were completed and reviewed by independent experts and regulators.

There were plans to open for a memorial day on Friday but it was cancelled after intervention from police, who are continuing to investigate.

But when will it be appropriate for the tourist attraction to open its doors?

Member for Coomera Michael Crandon said the theme park was a big driver for the Gold Coast economy and, while police needed time to do their job, reopening the park sooner could help people get back to normalcy.

"If it were possible to completely isolate all the areas that would be concerned in the investigation, then the sooner the rest of the community were able to come back to a normal life... and the rest of the community were able to come back to work and continue on with their lives the better," he said.

"If police were comfortable with being able to completely isolate that area which is their focus, and then allow appropriate return to the rest of the park over time, then that would be positive for the community.

"The sooner we get back, psychologically, the sooner people get back to normalcy the better I think.

"How do you define the appropriate time after the mourning aspect? I'm not talking about the families, I'm talking about the community."

Mr Crandon said people who would not be able to work while the park was closed would be impacted as well, financially and psychologically.

"People who work in the park, they would all feel the burden of that tragedy, and there's a period of mourning, but I think... for their psychological wellbeing, the sooner people get back to normalcy, getting up in the morning, getting dressed, going to work, going through the process of doing your work and what have you, the sooner the better it is," he said.

Mr Crandon, whose electorate includes Dreamworld, also extended his sympathies and said the events of this week were absolutely devastating.

"I just feel so much for the families, the pain they're going through must be horrendous," he said.

"Aside from that (reopening the park), and above all of that, is the pain that the families and friends of those that lost their life tragically are going through.

"I don't think an hour goes past that I don't think about this... It's just an absolute tragedy."

Member for Southport Rob Molhoek said the theme park would want to review all of its equipment so it could assure visitors the rides were safe.

"I think there needs to be some time to let this settle so we're respectful of what's happened," he said.

"I would have thought that they need to give the police time to do what they need to do or the investigators need to do.

"Whatever time that takes, if it takes a few days, if it takes a week. But I think the important thing out of any tragedy, and we've seen it out of cyclones, and other significant events, that the sooner we can go back to normal the better."

He said the incident would have a significant impact on how people feel about theme parks for some time, but that the park could not stay closed indefinitely.

"It is a terrible tragedy and it absolutely needs to be thoroughly investigated," Mr Molhoek said.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the park should reopen when the families of the four people killed were happy for it to reopen.

"First and foremost, and that they're ready to move on with the findings, and the police have got everything they want, that's my opinion," Mr Tate said.

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart said people on the Gold Coast were shocked.

Mr Hart said the park should reopen at a time amenable to both Dreamworld management and the police investigation.

"They need to have sufficient time to do it, so whatever timeframe that'll work for everyone," he said.

Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey said the events would be an enormous blow for tourism, but one that the park could recover from.

"Without a doubt, our hearts and prayers go out for those who've tragically lost their lives," she said.

Ms Stuckey said when Dreamworld reopened should be up to investigators working with the theme park.

"The rest of us should keep right out of that," she said.

"I think we've got plenty of other things to be concerned about and a grieving process needs to be able to take place.

"I think we should be allowed to grieve separately from even thinking about when the park should reopen, I think that's a totally separate issue."

Member for Broadwater Verity Barton said the question of when Dreamworld "may or may not reopen" was for the business and police.

"Everyone on the Gold Coast is devastated by the tragic events at Dreamworld earlier this week," she said.

Earlier on Friday, a Queensland Police spokesman said there was no timeframe for reopening the park and a crime scene warrant issued on Tuesday was valid for seven days.

"The crime scene warrant is for seven days. If they require longer then there will be an application made for further extension," the spokesman said.

He said he was not able to comment on when Dreamworld might reopen.

"That's between the head of the investigation and the park itself," he said.

On Thursday Dreamworld cancelled a memorial service it had planned for Friday after advice from police.

"Obviously the integrity of the coronial investigation is of paramount importance and postponing the service will give QPS the time it needs to conduct this investigation," a statement read on Thursday.
