The Australians were invited to a meeting with the operators of EagleEye along with the Proteas, who did not attend, Channel Nine production staff, umpires and the ICC match referee Andy Pycroft.

While the meeting on Friday at Blundstone Arena was set up to explain the technology, the focus was on the contentious call on Marsh. Australia was represented by team manager Gavin Dovey, who raised queries over how the decision was reached.

Marsh was adjudged lbw to an inswinger which hit the all-rounder's toe and was deemed to be clipping leg stump though selector Mark Waugh and former captain Mark Taylor are among those who believe the delivery would have missed.

The technology had the ball straightening upon pitching, which doubters believe was wrong.

"What we saw with this one, we knew we had the bounce point, and before everyone else in the commentary box saw it, we knew it hit the foot and not the pad," said Ian Taylor, the CEO of New Zealand company that provides EagleEye to the broadcaster.

"Then they make a call that says we know that's where it bounced and that's where it impacted on the foot so now we've got its line after the bounce. So between those points we can draw a line and extrapolate that and that's how we had it nicking the stump."

Taylor says he respects the opinions of former players and accepts technology is not foolproof but was surprised they did not ask his operators for an explanation.

"Our door is always wide open to any of the commentators and umpires to come down and have a look at the process that we went through. We're learning from them at the same time," Taylor said.

"A lot of times there are commentators up there that haven't had a chance to come down and see how much technology is going into this. You then ask yourself, 'do you really think in that instance what the human eye and what instinct tells you, overrides this?' "
