Lord Mayor Graham Quirk unwrapped the city's new program of free events in the Queen Street Mall on Tuesday.
Roma Street Parklands will join the mix this year with an installation of feature lighting transforming the Parklands into an enchanted garden and a special program of Christmas movies for visitors to enjoy under the stars.
The program will include almost 150 free council-run events and activities which are expected to attract hundreds of thousands of people to Brisbane from across south-east Queensland.
Cr Quirk said last year's Christmas program attracted more than 650,000 visitors to the CBD and South Bank, with even more expected this year to the four-week program.
"Every year, Brisbane comes alive in a buzz of festivities with visitors contributing to a spend of about $30 million per day, which is a welcome injection for local businesses, in particular retailers and hospitality venues for whom Christmas is a vital sales period," Cr Quirk said.
The Christmas season will officially begin with the flick of a switch, when Australia's largest solar-powered Christmas tree is lit up in King George Square on Friday, November 25.
The popular Christmas parade will return to the Queen Street Mall from December 16-24, from 7pm, with new floats.
And a new Australia story will light up City Hall for the City Hall Light Spectacular.
The animation will be a narrated story about a family celebrating Christmas in Australia, by writer Cherri Ryan.
South Bank will also be filled with festive cheer, with the return of the Christmas Markets in Stanley Street Plaza, Christmas Beach Cinema on Streets Beach and four nights of free Christmas carols, presented by Hillsong Brisbane.
The program is free and bookings are not required.
