Law firm Slater and Gordon revealed on Tuesday that an in-principle agreement has been reached between the club and 18 current and former players who suffered loss as result of the club's 2012 supplements program.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport banned 34 players for their involvement in the club's 2012 supplements program. They were suspended for a year, while skipper Jobe Watson opted to also cede his 2012 Brownlow Medal.

The settlement amounts are confidential but Slater and Gordon class action lawyer Patrick Gordon said the result was vindication for the players.

"All issues in these 18 cases have been agreed in-principle and subject to the paperwork now being satisfactory and being executed by our clients, the matters will be formally resolved in the next several days," Gordon said.

"These players were innocent participants in the supplements program. They were given assurances that all supplements they were receiving had been approved from people who they thought they could trust.

"No player at any time intended to breach their obligations under the AFL anti-doping code and any such breach that occurred was due to the players being misled about the nature of the supplements they received.

"They now hope to move on with their lives and careers, both within and outside the AFL.

"The negotiations with the Essendon Football Club have been complex and we acknowledge the constructive approach of the Essendon Football Club and in particular, its CEO Xavier Campbell in resolving these matters."

It's understood there is still a small group of players yet to secure compensation, including retired Bomber, Nathan Lovett-Murray.

The Bombers last week announced a $9.8 million loss for last season, including $4.5 million in player compensation claims and legal fees. The $4.5 million covered the compensation given to the 18 players.

Crameri had one of the more intriguing cases, for his suspension last season meant he missed the opportunity to play in a premiership with the Bulldogs.

The ongoing compensation claims come at a time when Stephen Dank, the man at the centre of the Dons' injecting program, seeks to have overturned the 10 breaches of the AFL's anti-doping code he was found guilty of in April last year.

Dank failed to attend his own appeal against a lifetime ban on Monday and has been given until the end of the week to provide medical evidence about why he missed the hearing. Dank cited a family medical emergency which meant he had to remain in Sydney.

Appeals board chairman Peter O'Callaghan has rescheduled the hearing for December 1, provided Dank can deliver the evidence from the hospital concerned and the treating doctor as to why he had been unable to attend the hearing on Monday.
