Treasurer Curtis Pitt and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey announced the project would create an expected 1300 jobs in construction.
The multi-million dollar project is the first to be approved under the Palaszczuk government's market-led proposal initiative.
The Logan Motorway, which began in 1988, was originally managed by state government-owned Queensland Motorways before it was transferred over to the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC), effectively the state government's banker, in 2011.
In 2015, QIC sold its holdings in Queensland Motorways to a private consortium headed by Transurban, which also runs Legacy Way, the Gateway Motorway and the Go Between Bridge.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Emerson said the "so-called announcement" was nothing for the government to hang its hat on.
"The project is simply the expansion of the toll road network by a private company," Mr Emerson said.
"Labor announced their market-led proposal nearly two years ago but it has taken them all that time to get around to signing off on the first one."
