The gay panic defence - or Homosexual Advance Defence - has been used by people accused of murder to claim they were provoked due to an unwanted homosexual advance.

In May, it was expected that the legislation would be introduced to parliament later in 2016.

There is only one sitting week left of Queensland parliament for 2016 - or three days - and the government is also expected to resume heated debate of organised crime laws.

In a video featuring Tom Ballard, Benjamin Law, Faustina Agolley and Laurelle Mellet - a mother of a gay son - Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is urged to introduce the reforms in 2016.

"Premier Palaszczuk, as a fellow Queenslander, I think we both know that there are a lot of anachronisms in Queensland law," Mr Law says in the video.

"Please get rid of it before the year's out.

"A lot of people are watching and a lot is at stake."

Mr Ballard said it was not right that "someone can kill a gay person and then have a lesser punishment because the person they killed is gay".

"Premier Palaszczuk, you promised to get rid of this law by the end of 2016. You've got three days left of parliament to make that happen," Mr Ballard said.

"Please, stick to your word and abolish this outdated, homophobic law."

Comedians Josh Thomas and Rove McManus and singer Missy Higgins have also backed the reforms.

A petition on the issue, created by Catholic priest Father Paul Kelly after a man was bashed and killed in his church grounds at Maryborough in 2008, has more than 289,000 signatures on Change.org.

A spokesman for Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath said the government would honour an election commitment to reform Queensland laws to exclude an unwanted sexual advance from the partial defence of provocation.

"Amendments to section 304 of the Criminal Code to remove the so-called 'gay panic' defence will be introduced to parliament next week," Ms D'Ath said.
