The Yaraka B&S Ball was once one of western Queensland’s social events of the year – girls would frock up on one side of the town dam, boys dusting off their dinner suit on the other – before dancing the night away at the town hall and a new romance for a lucky few.

After 16 years in recess, an enthusiastic group of young locals decided it was past time to revive the tradition, and staged a hugely successful ball at the Yaraka Sports Ground on the weekend.
Including a Friday night beach party, a ute competition and a young grazier challenge, 350 people from all over Queensland and as far as New South Wales and South Australia, helped create a new legend for the tiny town in the central west.
Toowoomba covers band Special Guest set the scene with 70s classics and country rock, stopping only for a best butts competition, lucky door prizes and a multidraw raffle.
Proceeds from the day will be shared between mental health initiatives and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
