The latest June quarterly public service workforce statistics were published on Monday, showing 2544 full-time employees were hired in three months.

The government has been under pressure to release the data in recent weeks, with the LNP accusing it of "hiding" the statistics.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland was so frustrated by the apparent delay, that it pledged to lodge a right to information request for the data.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Emerson said the statistics showed Queensland's public service was now the biggest on record.

"Since Annastacia Palaszczuk came to office, an extra 12,500 positions have been added to the public service," Mr Emerson said.

"That is estimated to cost taxpayers an extra billion dollars a year."

Mr Emerson said the growth was in non-frontline bureaucrats.

"The growth in police, firies or communities and child safety workers has not kept pace with the rapid growth seen in other non-frontline departments," he said.

But Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said more than nine out of 10 public servants were in frontline and frontline support roles.

"Boosting frontline services makes a real difference to Queensland communities," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Ms Palaszczuk said most of the 2544 workers employed were in health and education.

She said the Newman government cut 14,000 jobs in its first budget.

"This has had severe impacts on services across Queensland," she said.

Queensland Health has added 1083 full time employees, including 429 in nursing and 40 doctors.

The Department of Education and Training increased by 857 full-time employees, including 251 teachers and 404 teacher aides.

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General increased by 92 full-time employees, reflecting the recommissioning of the Borallon Correctional Centre.

The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services increased by 52 full-time employees.

This included child safety officers and child safety support officers, clinicians, court co-ordinators and residential care officers.
