There is no denying this is the future, but in smaller areas such as North West Queensland, a local newspaper is vital to connecting communities. The local media can and in our case certainly does promote, encourage and defend the local community.
Local Labor were delighted with the announcement by the Palaszczuk Government’s doubling of the "Back to Work Youth Boost".
It’s a $20,000 incentive for regional businesses who hire unemployed youths.
Youth unemployment was unacceptably high and the state government is redoubling its efforts to address this challenge.
This is a massive incentive for businesses to hire, especially as school leavers start to look for work after Christmas.
This offer applies to unemployed people aged between 15-24 and expires on February 28, 2017. So when the "Back to Work Youth Boost" opens on December 1, employers will need to act quickly.
We believe this is one way of tackling the Youth unemployment problem and this program demonstrates that our Palaszczuk government has youth employment clearly as one of its priorities.
We encourage local businesses to find out more by going to the website: www.backtowork.initiatives.qld.gov.au/
Children in rural and remote communities will have greater access to kindy programs in 2017, as the Palaszczuk government expands the Remote Kindergarten Pilot Program.
This pilot program currently has 11 schools participating but will expand to 36 next year.
We all know how vital it is to give young children a confident start in their early years and this program will certainly do just that.
All participating schools will receive a $5000 grant to buy age appropriate resources for participating children. If anybody requires more information call: 137468
We were all delighted and proud that young Doomadgee man Elijah Douglas reached the finals of the Young Australian of the Year awards in Brisbane last week.
To see this young man appear before 200 guests including Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk and hold his own certainly gives us all confidence in the future of our young people in North West Queensland.
