Local jockeys Keith and Dan Ballard consumed five placings from the six race program on Saturday, as Mount Isa Race Club held their annual Christmas meeting.

It was the final event on the Mount Isa racing calendar, and as the 2016 racing season drew to a close local jockey’s displayed their best performance.
The BenchMark 65 Handicap 1450 metre race saw Keith Ballard on Wulfwin take first place, six lengths in front of Steve Galvin on By Emteeare. Third position saw Terrence Hill on Diurnal Tiger only a head behind.
The BenchMark 60 Handicap 1000 metre race saw Dan Ballard on Bush Lawyer claim first position by a short neck in front of Terrence Hill on Caldane. Third position went to Steven Galvin on Whisper Willow.
Race three, Maiden Plate 1200 metre, saw Steven Galvin on Red Charmer charge ahead with a convincing four length lead in front of Keith Ballard on Veganer. Third place went to Tim Brummell on Smiling Mistress.
The BenchMark 55 Handicap 1200 metre race saw Tim Brummell on Flamingo Rose take first place with three lengths to spare in front of Shaun Mossman on Lasting Image. Sabbir Alam sealed third position on Hotilla less than two lengths behind.
Race five, Benchmark 55 Handicap 1200 metres, saw Dan Ballard on Sparkling Vixen take the lead less than two lengths in front of Tim Brummell on Your Way Or Mine. Third place went to A Apradau on Splash Out.
The final race, Open Handicap 1200 metre, saw Dan Ballard on Mossale claim victory four lengths in front of Tamara Tincknell on Revel In The Chaos. Tim Brummell on Smooth General claimed third three lengths behind second.
Club president, Dan Ballard, said he had a fantastic day.
“Any day you can come away with three wins, is a good day,” he said.
“My weight has been good over the last few months, but will have to keep an eye on it and work hard to stay in shape over the Christmas, New Year period.
“The horses from Saturday’s race will go for a spell shortly. Within the New Year we will get new horses in and progress with training again to prepare for the next part of the 2016/17 season.”
Next year’s racing program will kick back in to action on March 4 followed by March 18 before other events progress across North Queensland. Including, Cloncurry March 25, Maxwelton April 1, Western Picnic Race Club April 7, Julia Creek Dirt n Dust April 8, Boulia April 15, North Gregory April 22, Gregory Downs April 29. Mount Isa races continue on May 6, May 20, June 3 and June 24.
