Now in its fifth year, the 2017 Big Red Bash boasts a lineup of some of Australia’s best rock and country artists. Topping the bill is country icon Lee Kernaghan, using the occasion to celebrate 25 years. For the third and final day of the festival, Lee has assembled a cast of his nearest and dearest, banding together as the Legends of Country including James Blundell, The McClymonts, Tania Kernaghan, The Wolfe Brothers and Christie Lamb.
Pop sensation Jessica Mauboy will headline the first night of the event, while the second day will be a rock ‘n roll extravaganza spearheaded by James Reyne and Mark Seymour. They will be joined by Aussie rock royalty, Ian Moss, Kate Cebrano, Russell Morris and Ray Ryder.
Standard adult tickets are $395 plus booking fee, while youths from 12 – 17 are $65 plus booking fee. Children from 11 and under are totally free, although tickets must be booked in advance. For those wanting to bring the whole family along for the outback journey, family passes are available for $855 + booking fee, and includes unlimited youth and child passes.
The Bash is also introducing new Premium tickets, a fully insured pass guaranteeing a refund, should the event be cancelled in the event of bad weather.
In the event of bad weather, organisers will endeavor to stage the event in an alternative setting; the 2016 Bash was forced to relocate to Birdsville due to bad weather, but the festival was successful nonetheless. Note that refunds will not be available to standard ticketholders. Standard ticketholders will have the option to upgrade to premium tickets until May 31, 2017.
Premium adult tickets are valued at $435 plus a 2.5% processing and booking fee. Tickets for youths between 12 and 17 will be $70 + booking fee, and premium family passes cost $925 + booking, and again includes unlimited youth and child tickets.
Premium ticket include more than full insurance against cancellation; ticketholders will receive a complimentary program worth $15, membership to the Outback Mates Club, valued at $20, which offers several special offers and discounts throughout outback Queensland travels (more details can be found here). Finally, premium ticket holders will enter a draw to win one of six backstage experiences – a family pass will enter the whole family into the draw.
The 2017 Birdsville Big Red Bash will take place from July 4 – 6, 2017. The Bash takes place at the iconic Big Red sand dune, which towers 10 storeys high, 35km out of Birdsville and bordering the vibrant red sands of the Simpson Desert. Big Red offers inimitable outback scenery and a spectacular backdrop to enjoy some of the country’s best loved musicians, while serving up breathtaking views of the vast desert expanse and remote starry night skies.
Families, travellers and music lovers flock to the Bash each year from all across the country and beyond. More than 7000 visitors attended the sell-out 2016 festival, with many using the opportunity to embark upon a lengthy journey throughout the remote Australian outback. Intrepid travellers can visit many other towns en route to the Bash, of which several will be participating in travel incentives, and offering entertainment for those driving through. These can be viewed on the official website, and attendees are invited to share their experiences with fellow travellers on the hugely popular Facebook page.
