White, who is in charge of Top 14 club Montpellier, started feeling ill before his team's game against Grenoble, according to the club.

The 53-year-old World Cup-winning mentor is still in hospital, but medical staff revealed White was in a stable condition with no immediate worries for his health.

White's charges ran up a 37-51 away win at Grenoble to climb second in the Top 14 table without their boss, who will be relieved of his post at the end of the season in favour of New Zealander Vern Cotter.

White took the Brumbies reins in 2012 and led a rugby union revival in Canberra, rebuilding the club from a broken machine into a Super Rugby contender.

He also instigated protocols to have Brumbies players aligned to Canberra first-grade clubs instead of having them play in the Sydney competition.

White quit the Brumbies after leading the team into the Super Rugby grand final in 2014, shocking the club and its fans.

However, his Brumbies links continued by luring Ben Mowen, Nic White, Jesse Mogg and Joseph Tomane to Montpellier after signing a deal to coach in France.

Jake White, Nic White and Mogg were part of a Montpellier group who shaved their heads in support of Christian Lealiifano earlier this year after the Brumbies captain was diagnosed with leukaemia.
