The Mount Isa City Council also has nine awards, and its Legends awards reestablished two years ago would be renamed for the 2017 ceremony.
The nine Mount Isa awards are for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Senior Sports Award, Junior Sports Award, for the Community Event of the Year, the Arts and Culture Award, the Spirit of Mount Isa Award, and the Southern Gulf NRM Sarus Crane Environmental Award.
Mount Isa mayor Joyce McCulloch said nominations for the Mount Isa Australia Day awards close on Monday, January 16.
“This is an opportunity to nominate and recognise members of our community for their dedication and inspiring contribution that helps makes our community a better place to work, live and grow,” she said.
“These are work colleagues, community organisations, community leaders or event friends and family that dedicate their time and make our community the great place that it is,” the Mount Isa mayor said.
McKinlay Shire Council’s nominations have extended to this Friday and can be downloaded on its website.
“If you know an individual or community group that is worthy of recognition, please put them forward,” a council spokesperson said.
These eight awards are for junior and senior citizen of the year, sports administrator, community event, junior and senior sports star, volunteer, and the cultural award.
