However, an industry source believed Adani’s operations could attract highly skilled workers in companies in the region to work for their Carmichael mine project.
Queensland shadow minister for mines and northern development Andrew Cripps welcomed Adani’s decision to operate in Emerald, Moranbah, Clermont, Collinsville and Charters Towers, and for the company’s decision to apply for federal government funding through the North Australia Infrastructure Facility.
Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter was pleased with Adani’s progress, saying the company was the gateway to India’s electricity market. However, Mr Katter was cautious about giving Adani too much influence.
“Whilst we remain strong supporters of Mr Adani, for both governments to give the control of the coalfields to one corporation through that rail line is beyond belief.”
