The Sewer Augmentation - Stage 2A (Improvement of Effluent Compliance) will upgrade the Mount Isa Waste Water Reclamation Plant and its process systems to ensure the quality of treated effluent meets current license conditions.
It will also will ensure “Class A” standard recyclable effluent is produced to give a wider range of reuse options such as for the local horse paddocks.
Council said much of the fitment work was awarded to local contractors and recent project milestones included commissioning of the ultra violet (UV) filtration unit, pipe and mechanical completion, and completion of balance tanks.
The $5m sewerage treatment plant project is funded by Council and with the assistance of Federal Government funding through National Stronger Regions Fund, and State Government funding through Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program, and State government under Royalties for the Region.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the project was vital in providing enhanced water infrastructure for Mount Isa.
“The Sewerage Augmentation Project will benefit this city enormously by improving the quality of effluent water which will be used for a number of Mount Isa’s parks and recreational grounds after the wastewater has been treated,” Cr McCulloch said.
“This project will lessen the demand on Mount Isa’s potable water supplies and enhance the city’s green areas.”
