ELECTIONS, airfares and services, a budgie smuggler cowboy, and a cute, stolen dog named Jasmin were the best inspirations for Mount Isa cartoonist Bret Currie this year.

Mr Currie drew cartoons for three elections this year; the local government, the federal, and even one cartoon for the American election in which Donald Trump pulled aside the Statue of Liberty to tell her to work in the kitchen.
The change of Mount Isa mayor from Tony McGrady to Joyce McCulloch has affected his inspiration to a degree. Mr McGrady was a regular target for the local cartoonist, as evident by Bret Currie’s Top 10 2015 cartoons.
He’s a regular contributor to The North West Star, and the cartoons are typically in the Letters to the Editor page in the Saturday print editions.
