"Sutherland must go!" It's a cry that has not been heard as much since the national team started its climb from rock bottom but there's one Australian cricket fan who is continuing the crusade.

The fan, who preferred to be known only as Terry, says he has been putting up stickers in and around the MCG outlining his case. It's very much a no-frills campaign Terry is running: he's printed 180 stickers at the cost of 2.5¢ apiece – or $4.50 in total.

"Sutherland must go! Cricket is our game, not his corporation. We wanna win Tests, not make profit," the sticker reads.

"I've stuck them everywhere I can, on toilet, mirrors, garbage bins," Terry said. He's claiming to have also slapped his message on the sculptures of "Invincibles" Don Bradman and Keith Miller on the MCG concourse, though they were not there when The Tonk went searching. We did, however, see one on the statue of Olympic great Shirley Strickland.

We admire Terry's ambition however it will take more than a $4.50 campaign to unseat Sutherland, who has survived multiple Ashes defeats, a root and branch review and still has the support of the board.

Testing times for purists

The tradition of Test cricket against the bells and whistles of the Big Bash League? Cricket fans in Sydney get their choice on Wednesday between the second day of the third Test or Sydney Thunder's clash with the Melbourne Stars.

They're not exactly head to head though if play runs late to 6.30pm like it has this week in Melbourne it will be hard for cricket lovers to head across town to Spotless Stadium for first ball at 7.10pm.

Cricket Australia has acknowledged the timing of the BBL game is not ideal, particularly at a time when it feels as if the Twenty20 game has overtaken Test cricket as the biggest show in town.

A crowd of 80,000 is expected for the Melbourne derby between the Stars and the Renegades on New Year's Day, which is more than the 63,478 who turned out on Boxing Day.

"We'd take the broader view and say we see it as cricket overall," BBL boss Anthony Everard said.

"If you're a cricket fan instead of watching eight hours of cricket you can watch 11 hours.

"All our research and anecdotal evidence tells us the person who would likely go to day four of a Test crowd is a different fan to that who would go to a Big Bash game."

Still on the BBL, there was a lot made of Andre Russell's black bat though it must be said it hasn't seen much of the ball.

A star last summer, Russell has hardly fired a shot with the bat this campaign with only 19 runs from three innings. In fact, he's not the only Sydney Thunder player yet to make an impact. Captain Shane Watson also looks in need of a gallop, having played only one official game since August.

The western Sydney team are winless from three games – a record more in keeping with the "bad old days" rather than the side that took all before them in BBL5.

Voges is back

Most people thought Adam Voges' Test career was doomed after the heavy defeat in Hobart but not so the publishers of the official match program for the Pakistan series. They've pitted the West Australian against Pakistan veteran Younis Khan as a "key match-up".

It's not the first time Voges has left authorities blushing. He was named in the International Cricket Council's Test team of the year, ahead of Steve Smith, who was 12th man, despite being dumped by national selectors.
