Department store giant David Jones has submitted its plans for a boutique store at Fortitude Valley's trendy James Street precinct, the second such store in Australia.

The plans were submitted to Brisbane City Council late last month.
The material change of use application would see the former Space furniture shop converted into the boutique David Jones store.
Planned to open "early" in 2017, David Jones James Street would include 1437 square metres of floor space over four levels.
It would be the second David Jones boutique in Australia, following the opening of a store at Barangaroo in the Sydney CBD in November.
Comment was sought from David Jones on Sunday, but announcing the expansion in October, chief executive John Dixon said the Fortitude Valley precinct was a good fit for the company's new venture.
"James Street is one of Brisbane's most vibrant shopping and lifestyle precincts making it an ideal location for our new boutique format," he said.
"This dynamic format enables us to deliver an innovative store experience in a smaller footprint, with a customised fashion and beauty offering and specialised services.
"We are excited to be further growing our footprint in Queensland.
"The James Street store follows the opening of our recent flagship at Pacific Fair and the announcement of our first Sunshine Coast store, demonstrating our confidence in the state."
There have been mixed fortunes for high-end retail in Brisbane, with David Jones's arch rival Myer set to close its Brookside store this month.
