The Tully District Knitting and Crochet Group have sent three large care packages full of knitted and crocheted toys and garments to Mount Isa Hospital.

Group facilitator Mary Grinstead says the group of 15 to 20 women regularly knit and crochet goods for 16 hospitals around Queensland, as well as for the two aged care facilities around Tully.
“Over the last three years we have produced around 9,000 articles. Our ladies just produce so many beanies, toys, and garments, and we beg, borrow or steal any wool we can get from anyone! We even run raffles to raise money for the wool,” Ms Grinstead said.
A Mount Isa Hospital spokesperson said the goods were of a high quality and would be distributed on the Children’s and Maternity Wards and in the Cancer Care Unit.
“There are some brightly coloured beanies and toys for our patients on the Children’s Ward, and some tiny little caps and clothing for newborn babies for the Maternity Ward.
“For the Cancer Care Unit, there are some soft knitted beanies, scarves and lap blankets which will be a real comfort to our patients,” the spokesperson said.
The Tully Lionesses donated 5kg post bags for posting the goods.
