The 14-year-old said anybody was welcome to play at the oval for a gold coin donation. A sausage sizzle and drinks will also be available. The match starts at 9am.
The charity match is part of the Ponting Foundation’s annual fundraiser, the Biggest Game of Cricket. The foundation supports young cancer patients and their families.
Frank was inspired to support the foundation during the 2014 Ashes series, when he heard Ricky Ponting’s motivational speech about what the foundation did to help.
“It’s just that a lot of people have everything, and take it for granted, and it’s good to help out someone who doesn’t have it so easy,” Frank said, when asked what part of Ponting’s speech inspired him.
He first held a small event for friends and families after hearing that speech, raising $425. It’s the first Christmas holidays that Frank’s spent in Mount Isa since then.
