That means now is the last chance for Mount Isa residents to nominate local individuals and community groups for the 2017 Mount Isa Australia Day Awards, closing January 16.
This prestigious local event will be held during Mount Isa’s Australia Day celebrations.
That event is coming up fast on Thursday, January 26, 2017.
Now Mount Isa City Council Mayor Joyce McCulloch said she was calling on people in the city to recognise the outstanding contribution that many individuals make to the community.
“We are asking that locals think about the groups and individuals of people that have contributed to the community over-time, but especially the last 12 months,” Cr McCulloch said.
“Nominating someone is as easy as filling out an application form and then just returning it to Mount Isa City Council by Monday January 16, 2016.”
Cr McCulloch said there were many people within this community who work silently in volunteer positions and various roles to help enrich the lives of others.
“So please consider putting in a nomination,” she said.
“The Australia Day Awards are one way we can give recognition to their efforts and achievements.
Mount Isa City Council is accepting nominations in any of eight categories.
The categories are: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Sports Award, Junior Sports Award, Community Event of the Year, Arts and Culture Award, Spirit of Mount Isa Award, and the Southern Gulf NRM Sarus Crane Environmental Award.
The Australia Day Committee will judge the award nominees with winners to be honoured at the Australia Day celebration, in Mount Isa on January 26.
Nomination forms can be found at http://www.mountisa.qld.gov.au/australia-day- 2017, or the Council office on West Street.
Nominations close on Monday January 16.
