Tourism in the north west has received a major boost with three local events earning $50,000 between them.

Winton’s Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival has gained Significant Event funding worth $30,000 while Boulia Camel Races and Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge & Campdraft have received $10,000 each.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said the awards were through round five of the Tourism and Events Queensland’s Queensland Destination Events Program.
“Events play a key role in growing Queensland’s tourism economy, increasing overnight visitation, driving visitors to the state and offering them an extraordinary and uniquely Queensland experience,” Ms Jones said.
“Significant events will benefit from increased marketing and strategic support to increase their profile and promote their experiences to visitors.”
Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington congratulated the successful events as a great excuse for people to get out and see Queensland.
The QDEP Round Six is currently open for event submissions that take place between August 2017 and November 2018.
