The 21-year-old has been in Mount Isa for 13 years and calls it home, saying the community is one of the reasons she’s up for the Rodeo Queen Quest challenge.
“The Mount Isa community in general is so supportive and will help anyone, so I thought I might as well give it a go. You’ve only got one life so you might as well live it,” said Ms Gardner.
Since signing up for the contest in December, Caitlynd has been fundraising for Mount Isa Bush Kids, a cause that’s close to home.
“When I was growing up in primary school, I was one of the children that Bush Kids cater for. They provide assistance to children up to grade 1 who have learning and behavioural difficulties.
“Last year they helped 1200 families in and around the Mount Isa region.”
Before completing her auto-electrical apprenticeship at Mount Isa Mines, Caitlynd worked as a stable hand and strapper for local race horse trainer Denise Ballard.
