Flanigan now wants to see more people playing the game and is spearheading the club’s first ever Mount Isa open darts competition.
“We started in 2015 so this event will be the start of our third season,” Flanagan said.
“This is the first tournament of the season but will be the main single competition tournament for Mount Isa.”
Flanigan said the tournament would be in open format but there was also a pro-am format.
“That’s where the better players get mixed in with the players who have never played before so it gives everyone a chance to win there,” he said.
The competition to be known as the Mount Isa Lead Balloon Darts Competition is scheduled to take place at Mount Isa’s home of darts, the Leichhardt Services Bowls Club, on February 18 and everyone is invited.
Entry fee is $20 and it includes entry to three competitions.
They are the pro-am mixed doubles, the blind man’s bull $100 challenge (“a bit of fun, and a bit like pin the tail on the donkey,” Flanigan said) and singles open competition with prize money for the other two events to be announced on the day, depending on numbers.
“In the open section everyone will be in groups of three, two go through to the knockout, the better players will be handicapped by starting off a higher number,” Flanigan said.
“The most important thing is to come along and have fun.
“Don’t worry that you are not good enough, this is a social event, we are all not good enough.
“Just, give it a go.”
Sign on for the Mount Isa Lead Balloon Darts Competition is at noon on Saturday February 18 for a 1pm start.
