Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said the club was working with the NRL Integrity Unit after they were notified of the incident on Sunday.

The club won't make a decision on any possible punishment until after the investigation has been completed.

NSW prop James Tamou copped a two-match suspension, which included missing a State of Origin game, and a $20,000 fine from the NRL for a drink-driving charge in 2013 after he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.197.

It was unclear what Papalii's blood-alcohol reading was on Saturday night.

A Raiders spokesman said Papalii was yet to be charged on Sunday, despite the incident occurring the night before.

"I'm not sure of the process of how it works, but he hasn't been charged with anything as of yet," the spokesman said.

Stuart played phone tag with Papalii on Sunday and wanted to speak to his player before making any further comment.

But he assured the Green Machine fans they would work closely with the NRL.

"I'm out of town at the moment with my family and I'm back this evening. I'm obviously aware of the situation," Stuart told Fairfax Media on Sunday.

"We're doing everything we need to do in regards to the NRL. I know [Raiders football manager] John Bonasera has been talking to [NRL senior investigator] Karyn Murphy. I've personally spoken to [NRL general manager of integrity] Nick Weeks this morning.

"I've rung Josh and missed his return call, I've missed him a couple of times and vice-versa. Out of respect I need to talk to Josh first before I make any further comment."

Raiders chief executive Don Furner said he was "disappointed", in a club statement issued on Sunday afternoon.

Papalii was also involved in several driving-related incidents in 2014.

There was a bizarre road-rage incident where he threw a one-litre bottle of moisturising cream at another motorist in July that year.

The club agreed to pay for the damage to the other motorist's car and Papalii had counselling but didn't miss any games.

He lost his licence for one month and was fined later that year after he was caught driving with a suspended licence.

The original suspension came after he failed to pay a parking fine from the previous year.

The Raiders' disappointment is amplified by the fact Papalii was elevated to the leadership group last season and has established himself in both the Queensland and Australian forward packs.

Papalii has played nine Tests for the Kangaroos and made six State of Origin appearances for the dominant Maroons.

The 24-year-old is on the comeback trail from ankle surgery following an injury he suffered during the Raiders' 2016 finals campaign, but he was expected to fit for the start of the season against the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville.

His drink-driving charge is an unwelcome distraction as the Green Machine ramps up preparations for the start of the season.

Expectations are high around the Raiders after they made last year's preliminary final and they've prided themselves on the culture they've created since Stuart's arrival.

That culture has helped turn around several wayward stars, including Joey Leilua and Junior Paulo.

But Papalii became another player the NRL Integrity Unit will investigate.

They're already looking into whether Paulo should be sanctioned after the Raiders prop lost his licence for 12 months and was fined $1300 for a road-rage incident that occurred when he was with Parramatta.

The NRL Integrity Unit could also look into suspending Dave Taylor, who is training with the Raiders to try and earn a contract for the 2017 season.

Taylor was fined $1000 for cocaine possession from his time with the Gold Coast Titans in 2014.
