Kay Strong, a Townsville-based Northern Queensland Regional Manager at AusIndustry took an audience of business owners, not-for-profit staff and council employees through a host of useful websites.
These included www.business.gov.au which she said provided simple access to information and services for business.
This site had important information and tips for people starting their own business, planning tools and a business checklist which can guide you step by step through the process.
It also has a list of support or assistance, including how to find grants, advisers and events for your business.
Ms Strong then spoke about the Australian business licence and information service (ABLIS) which she said was a “well-kept secret” and a show of hands in the room proved few people had heard of it.
ABLIS helps you find the government licences, permits, approvals, registrations, codes of practice, standards and guidelines you need to know about to meet your compliance responsibilities.
If you are starting, operating, growing, or closing a business, ABLIS will reduce the run-around and give you the time to get on with business.
Then she spoke about www.digitalbusiness.gov.au, a portal that provides information that may assist you, with simple and practical tips on what your business or community organisation could be doing online and how you can do it, including tips on how to start a website.
The free workshop was held by Regional Development Australia in partnership with local, state and federal governments, to provide updates on specific Australian and Queensland Government grants and programs for businesses, not-for-profits and councils and also provide advice on developing strong applications for the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).
