This Australia Day (Thursday, January 26) in Mount Isa is shaping up to be a huge event, with Mount Isa City Council adding several fun activities to the schedule.

The day will begin at 7am with a free barbecue breakfast and refreshments.
There will be plenty of seating to enjoy the live entertainment, free jumping castles, facepainting and henna painting, temporary tattoos and balloons.
There will be a pie eating competition at 8am, followed by a ‘best dressed Aussie” competition catwalk, flag-raising and national anthem.
At 9am, the celebrations will continue inside the Civic Centre with the prestigious Australia Day Awards and citizenship ceremony, followed by the cutting of the Australia Day cake.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said she was looking forward to hosting her first Australia Day celebration as mayor and encouraged everyone to come along and celebrate the day.
“It’s a wonderful reason time for the community to get together and celebrate being Australian, in fun and family friendly environment,” Cr McCulloch said.
“We’d love to see as many people as possible join us for this free event, and enjoy the festivities.”
The Australia Day celebrations will begin at 7am, this Thursday, January 26, at the Civic Centre lawns on West Street.
