The height of hypocrisy
Over the years I have observed a lot of political hypocrisy but in recent days our State member Robbie Katter and Mount Isa City Council Mayor Joyce McCulloch must take the prize.

On the North West Star website I read about our Mayor referring to Mr Katter as “Hey Big Boy” as they congratulate each other for getting over $15 million for the North West councils from our state Labor Government including over $3 million for Mount Isa alone.
The implication was that our state member and the mayor were responsible for getting these funds.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
These funds were allocated to these councils by our state government based on merit.
Then in Saturdays printed edition of the Star under the headline “North West Misses Out” we have Mr Katter saying “It was time for the State Government to support Western Queensland and re-direct its spending to the regions.”
I am not critical of the North West Star as they simply report on the political propaganda furnished to them by Mr Katter and Cr McCulloch as taxpayer funded paid officials from their respective offices but these so called civic leaders can’t have it both ways.
If they are taking credit for the $15 million plus which came to the North West then they must stand condemned for failing to get additional funds from the second round of funding referred to in Saturday’s North West Star article.
Sadly, we have two amateurs trying to play politics in the “Big Boys League” but sadly for us they are really out of their depth.
To get pictures and stories in the Star just for the sake of it is no substitute for good old fashioned work and representation.

Job figures a sobering reminder
The latest state-wide youth unemployment figures are a sobering reminder of how Annastacia Palaszczuk’s policies are failing young Queenslanders.
Queensland’s youth unemployment rate rose by almost 2% from 11.5 to 13.4%, with 11,000 young Queenslanders forced to join the jobless queue. It’s clear Annastacia Palaszczuk’s Back to Work program is failing our young people.
It’s fine to talk about ‘jobs, jobs, jobs’ but let’s look at what Annastacia Palaszczuk has actually delivered.
There are almost 12,000 fewer young Queenslanders in work compared to when she was elected two years ago.
Apprenticeships have fallen off a cliff, with more than 4000 fewer starts and almost 5000 fewer completions in the last year alone.
In contrast, the LNP has announced a policy to Get Queensland Working, creating up to 20,000 jobs for young Queenslanders.
Our focus is on boosting apprenticeships and training and just getting young Queenslanders into work.
Unlike Labor who are all talk and no action, the LNP will deliver jobs and opportunities and Get Queensland Working again.

People were unhappy with the second major power outage in two weeks
Dar Bryce – Just remember Townsville got 250 million for a new stadium and we can't get a storm resilient power supply for an entire region
Anthony Walker – Killing us here in Curry. Very hot
Wayne Kemp The power company is getting to be a joke and we should be sending them a bill because they can’t supply power
Gary Osman This needs an independent investigation as it is totally unexpected especially when you pay the highest charges in the country
