But the lawyer for the Gold Coast man whose murder-suicide brought the issue to the fore maintained the potential changes would not have prevented his client being released.

David Bradford, 52, was freed on bail less than three weeks before police believed he murdered his wife, Teresa, at her Pimpama home, before taking his own life.

It's believed at least three of her children were home early Tuesday morning and rushed to alert neighbours to the horrible crime.

Before his release on January 12, Mr Bradford had spent 44 days behind bars, accused of choking and assaulting his estranged partner on November 28.

Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath announced on Thursday possible changes to the way bail was granted were under consideration, flagging a particular focus on the newly introduced offence of strangulation.

Police had reportedly called on a specialist domestic violence magistrate to reject Mr Bradford's bail application but were overruled.

The revelations sparked an outcry and calls from DV support agencies, anti-violence campaigners and more than 30,000 online petitioners to reconsider bail laws for violent offenders, particularly in relation to partner abuse.

Several advocates argued choking a partner was a major predictor for future domestic homicide and also called for judges and magistrates to be better educated.

Ms Bradford's brother, Darren O'Brien, joined the calls for change on Wednesday.

"Teresa was loved by a lot of people and didn't deserve this but please stop with speculations," he said outside Coomera police station, asking for space to grieve in private.

"In honour of my sister we will fight to get this no bail or some sort of ankle bracelet implemented to stop them from going near victims."

Speaking to ABC Radio Brisbane on Thursday morning, Ms D'Ath said she had asked her department to look into the difference between bail laws across the country.

"Let's examine how it works in other jurisdictions, where it's getting the positive results," she said.

"We have different legislation when it comes to criminal legislation across the country so looking at our criminal code, how that compares, if we were to have a reverse onus of proof in relation to bail, what offences should they apply to?

"The obvious one in my mind to look at is the new offence that we introduced, the standalone offence of strangulation, specifically in relation to domestic and family violence."

But Mr Bradford's lawyer, Mark Donnelly, defended the magistrate's decision to release his client on bail, even though he went on to murder his 40-year-old wife.

Speaking to The Today Show on Tuesday he said if anything, Mr Bradford should have been released earlier.

"This is a really tragic event but in this case, I think if the reverse onus, which is being proposed, was in place, Mr Bradford would have gotten bail in any event," he said, pointing to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

"He doesn't present as someone who, if you look at his criminal history and the particular incident, as someone who, in my view, would not get bail if the reverse onus was applied."

Ms D'Ath did not address concerns over accused DV offenders being granted bail without their victims knowing.

Close friend Karina Mason claimed Mrs Bradford didn't know her estranged husband was seeking bail until he was released.
