On Thursday, Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath said she had asked her department to examine the bail laws in other jurisdictions.

But Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said changes were not happening soon enough and he wanted to "re-weight" the favour in balance of the victims.

"We're not prepared to wait for yet another review or another report," he said.

"We know what the problem is and we have seen the solution implemented in other states."

David Bradford, 52, was freed on bail less than three weeks before police believed he murdered his wife, Teresa, at her Pimpama home, before killing himself.

Before his release, Mr Bradford had spent 44 days behind bars, accused of choking and assaulting his estranged partner in November.

Mr Nicholls said the LNP's legislation would cover people charged over domestic violence-related incidents, including offences such as strangulation, assault, deprivation of liberty and kidnapping.

He said the LNP would also announce a suite of reform to the justice system over the next month-and-a-half, including on mental health.

Mr Nicholls called for support for the bill across the house.

"I'm calling on the crossbench to do the right thing, and to support the LNP in this legislation," he said.

Parliament is due to resume sitting on Valentine's Day.

Bonnie Mobbs, the mother of murdered Gold Coast woman Shelsea Schilling, stood beside Mr Nicholls, fighting back tears, and said: "We don't need this anymore and it needs to stop".

Ms Schilling was 20 years old when she was bashed, suffocated and killed by her ex-partner Bronson Ellery – known as the Lizard Man - who then killed himself.

"Pieces of paper do absolutely, absolutely nothing, it's not a wall, it's not a barrier, it's a piece of paper," she said.

"How many more does it need to take before someone actually, government, or anyone, to change it?

"My daughter was a beautiful girl, she was loving, she was caring, and we don't need another person to live the life that I have to live and same as all these other ladies and people and families.

"There needs to be no more bail, no more, they stay there.

"Something needs to happen and it needs to happen now, not tomorrow, not the next month, not next year, now, now."

When asked about how his laws may mean people eventually found not guilty would languish in jail for months until their matter was dealt with, Mr Nicholls said: "It is more important that we protect the victims than we take the risk."

"This reversal of the onus of proof is where people have been charged with serious violent offences and all the reports that you read show that these offences are precursors to subsequent events," he said.

On the topic of whether it could lead to prison overcrowding, Mr Nicholls said he believed the issue could be managed.

Mr Nicholls said his heart broke for the families and children involved in this week's incident, his eyes misting at times during the press conference outside the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.

"I'm a father of a daughter, two young sons, been married to my wife for 23 years and we couldn't believe it last night," he said.

Opposition Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence spokeswoman Ros Bates said women did not go to court to get even, but in fear for their lives.

Earlier on Thursday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she had spoken to Ms D'Ath about calls to reverse the onus of proof on bail laws.

"She is going to look at what is happening in other states," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"She will also undertake, as she does, extensive consultation with both the law society, chief magistrate and also the bar association."

Ms Palaszczuk said information sharing must happen.

"We are going to look very closely and if there needs to be a shake-up there will be a shake-up because we want to ensure that victims of domestic violence are getting notified when the alleged perpetrator is being released," she said.

Ms Palaszczuk said she would also ensure courts had the resources they needed.

She said the police needed to be allowed to complete their investigation into the Pimpama murder, and it would be subject to a death review panel investigation, which would hand down recommendations.
